Three historical marvels from Gilera on display
The Padova Bike Expo Show will host a special area devoted to celebrating the history of motorcycling: Gilera, one of the oldest Italian brands of motorcycles, on occasion of its 100th anniversary, will put three marvels of Italian motorcycling on display. The first is a four-cylinder Gilera 500, built in 1952-1953. This bike brought the racer Benedicto Caldarella various European circuit race victories. The other is the two-cylinder Gilera 125 belonging to racer Romolo Ferri, built in 1955-1956, known as the “Mosca Bianca” (White Fly). Completing the rarities is a two-cylinder Gilera 175, only 10 models of which were produced in 1956-1957. It raced in the “Campionato Juniores” and participated at the “Gran Fondo” races such as the Milan-Taranto and the “Motogiro d’Italia”.
Padova Bike Expo Show will be the showcase of motorcycles that created the myth of vintage bikes that still today inspire and condition the market. Motorcycles that date back to the two world wars, important rare pieces that will make enthusiasts dream. Brands like Triumph, Norton and BSA, both road and competition models. One gem among them will be the Brough Superior, considered by some to be the Rolls Royce of the two wheels. A brand that in the 1930’s was synonymous with great performance and perfection of the finish: 60 horsepower and a guaranteed speed of over 100 miles/hour (approximately 160 Km/h). Often portrayed on the saddle of this wonder of the British industry was Lawrence of Arabia, a true motorcycle enthusiast and friend of the designer and builder George Brough.
